You would think that going mini golfing would bring back childhood memories, but no I actually never played as a kid, at least not that I can remember. I remember playing mini putt putt, but that is another story involving thrown golf clubs and bee stings.
Last night we went mini golfing for Mel's birthday. A couple of weeks ago when driving out to catch a friend's football game we drove by McGolf in Dedham. I thought Mel was going to have a fit when she saw it, she nearly jumped out of the car. So when it came time to decide what to do for her birthday, of course she thought....MINI GOLF. The place is a driving range with a mini golf course and they have a koi pond, with turtles. I think Leigh was going to have a heart attack when I held my iphone over the water to take this pic. She actually had to walk away.
I get easily frustrated when I do not get sport/activity the first time around. I knew this was going to be a problem, but we had a perfect night for golf and 10 of us met for a round of mini-golf. First of all my friends have obviously played before, a lot, because Jro got a hole-in-one the first friggin hole, then preceded to get another one on the last hole. Needless to say our team was not as adept as the other team, they had a number of hole-in-ones and I kept hearing cheers from behind us, or should I say taunts. Suppressing my competitive nature was difficult. At one point I think I said to Mel, "if you hit my ball one more time I am going to throw you in the koi pond", what? it just slipped out. Meanwhile our team was a frustrated bunch. Diane hit the ball like it was a baseball, they kept bouncing out of the hole. My middle finger was up most of the night as my ball now has a complex because I kept giving it the bird. My mini golf connoisseur friends said the course was not that challenging, apparently the lack of windmills and loops was disappointing.
All in all it was a great activity and night, we will definitely go back, it is cheap way to enjoy friends and be outside. The beers afterward made it all that much better.
